Quote of the day : RIP, Steve Jobs (2)

"Team,

I have some very sad news to share with all of you. Steve passed away earlier today.

Apple has lost a visionary and creative genius, and the world has lost an amazing human being. Those of us who have been fortunate enough to know and work with Steve have lost a dear friend and an inspiring mentor. Steve leaves behind a company that only he could have built, and his spirit will forever be the foundation of Apple.

We are planning a celebration of Steve’s extraordinary life for Apple employees that will take place soon. If you would like to share your thoughts, memories and condolences in the interim, you can simply email rememberingsteve@apple.com.

No words can adequately express our sadness at Steve’s death or our gratitude for the opportunity to work with him. We will honor his memory by dedicating ourselves to continuing the work he loved so much.

Tim"

Quote of the day : RIP, Steve Jobs

Sad, sad day.
From Gawker (link)

"Asked about his iPad, Barack Obama made sure ABC News' George Stephanopoulous knew "Steve Jobs actually gave to to me a little bit early. Yeah, it was cool. I got it directly from him." Then he blushed, swear to God."

Quote of the day : Gay rights (1)

"I'm a supporter of gay rights. And not a closet supporter either. From the time I was a kid, I have never been able to understand attacks upon the gay community. There are so many qualities that make up a human being... by the time I get through with all the things that I really admire about people, what they do with their private parts is probably so low on the list that it is irrelevant."

Song of the day : Tomorrow will be perfect... and what about today ?

After my French detour, with a French song and a French quote... back to an American classic song. The French song I mentioned earlier was called "Demain sera parfait", which can be translated into "Tomorrow will be perfect". Many years ago, Lou Reed recorded a song describing a perfect day.

There is a wonderful version of that song, recorded for the BBC by an unbelievable cast including Mr Lou himself, David Bowie, Bono, Elton John, Miss Emmylou Harris amongst other celebrities.

I particularly like when David Bowie sings "You made me forget myself". Sounds so authentic...!

Lou Reed - Perfect day

Quote of the day : Bastille day !

Today is Bastille day, France national holiday.
I had to pick a famous French quote today, from a French author who participated in the French Revolution... and this quote is so very true...

"The secret of freedom lies in educating people. whereas the secret of tyranny is keeping them ignorant."

- Maximilien Robespierre (1758-1794)

Song of the day : A French optimistic song

The tempo is upbeat, the lyrics are optimistic, this song lifts your mood. The title means "Tomorrow will be perfect".

Jean-Louis Aubert was the lead singer of a French rock band called Telephone.

Quote of the day : Confusing, confusing

"Ich bin ein Berliner."

- JFK, Berlin, June 26, 1963

In these times of revolution everywhere, this quote seemed really appropriate to me.
And no, it does not mean "I'm a jelly donut" (one more busted urban legend...).
